Colleen Ahern was born in 1971 in Wiradjuri/Leeton, New South Wales. Lives and works in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia.
Colleen Ahern's paintings engage primarily with visible remnants of the music industry, the historical scope of portraiture, and cultural iconography. Ahern creates paintings that are representational of vinyl LP record covers, exploring the intersecting nexus between fandom and nostalgia. The idea of homage is accentuated in Ahern's practice, as her paintings mimic the size of the record itself, and are created within the time it takes to listen to the album's duration. Ahern's recent work expands the artist's preoccupation with record cover art and translating the experience of music, utilising her trademark painting format of the 12-inch album.
