‘Mother’s Foot’ is a solo exhibition of new paintings by Moya McKenna, marking the artist’s seventh solo project with the gallery.
In ‘Mother’s Foot’, McKenna mines pictorial elements which have been the focus of the artist’s earlier paintings, be they derived from her own iconography developed over the past two decades, or from idiosyncratic art historical references. The paintings in ‘Mother’s Foot’ feed off each other, as stanzas and images repeat, dissolve and transfer to the next.
Motifs such as a lithe yellow cheetah craning its head to feed its young, discombobulated fleshy limbs, spectral female figures, a sanguine tongue, or a ghostly ribcage are each arranged next to one another, presenting a personal tableau that can be interpreted at will.
