‘Sense-Units’
South Yarra

Neon Parc is excited to announce ‘Sense-Units’, an exhibition of new oil paintings by Josey Kidd-Crowe. For the artists’ sixth presentation with the gallery, Kidd-Crowe has produced a suite of large scale paintings that builds upon his abstract trajectory with the inclusion of text-based works into his oeuvre.

Though grounded in language, the text-based paintings present as abstractions in their own right. These works could present as a rudimentary guide to the show through the doubling of dialect that bleeds across the exhibition. Their thought patterns or internal systems appear as slippery as the non-representational paintings themselves. It is through this process of othering and filtering out the personal that allows Kidd-Crowe to give painting autonomy. Thus, the methodology adopted is one of an open system rather than closed.

Josey Kidd-Crowe was born in Melbourne, where he currently lives and works. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts, La Trobe University (2009) and a Certificate III in Contemporary Fine Art and Craft, Lismore University of TAFE, NSW (2006).
