‘I ♥ Lizzy’
Brunswick
21 Nov.–20 Dec.
2025

Neon Parc proudly presents I ♥ Lizzy, a group exhibition celebrating the influence and friendships of Elizabeth Newman, opening Friday 21st November from 6–8pm at Neon Parc Brunswick.

Featuring over fifty artists including contemporaries and younger practitioners informed by Newman’s practice, the exhibition honours Newman’s extraordinary contribution and enduring impact across generations of Australian and International art.

Born in Melbourne in 1962, Elizabeth Newman has been exhibiting since the 1980s, developing a practice spanning painting, wall works, sculptures, textile-based works, and writing. Her experimental approach, marked by intellectual rigour combined with unbound creativity, has redefined formalist-conceptualist discourse in Australia. Known for her ability to blend minimalism with emotional resonance, Newman’s work often explores the interplay of presence and absence, using everyday materials like hessian, calico, and found objects to challenge conventional notions of art-making. Across four decades, Newman has expanded the possibilities of what contemporary art can be—combining sensitivity, humour and psychological acuity with a radical openness to form and meaning.

I ♥ Lizzy acknowledges Newman not only as one of the most important Australian artists of her generation, but also as a generous collaborator, thinker, friend and mentor whose practice continues to inspire dialogue and experimentation within contemporary art today.
